However, historical records show that when GSM services were introduced in Nigeria around 2001, the sector was characterized by excessive costs and limited accessibility. SIM cards were sold at exorbitant prices, airtime was expensive, billing systems were unfavorable, and mobile phones were largely unaffordable to the average Nigerian.
